Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashley Vance -- A short review

Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashley Vance

Elon Musk is the closest successor to the fame and vision that has so widely been attributed to the late Steve Jobs. He is, in other words, bringing sexy back to the world of Space and Automobile industries, along with quite a few others. What made him choose this path and what made him the person that he is today? Read on to find out.

Elon Musk was born in South Africa and then moved to Canada to further his studies. From there, he moved to the United States of America to University of Pennsylvania to get degrees in business and physics. At the age of 24, he founded a startup called 'Zip2' which was later on bought by 'Compaq' for $307 million. Musk recieved $22 million for his 7 percent shares.

After that he started working on 'X.com' with $10 million from his Zip2 payout. It was a payment gateway and an online financial services company which was later on merged with 'PayPal'. PayPal was then bought by eBay for $1.5 billion of which Musk received $165 million, as he was the largest shareholder of the company at that time.

He invested $100 million in SpaceX, $70 million into Tesla, and $35 million into SolarCity.

The book talks at length about how Elon has always possessed a great mind ever since he was a child. There are very few people who can manage to run one company successfully but he has managed to do that quite a few times with multiple companies, actually. He is a multi-billionaire now but he was also once struggling to keep his companies afloat but what kept him going and got him through was his vision to change the world, to make it a better place and to find an even better place for the survival of the human kind.

Definitely pick this book up to read in-depth about the man, the myth, the legend -- Elon Musk.

Game of Thrones and Starbucks -- Great marketing?

Game of Thrones is arguably the biggest and most successful TV show in today's time. It's a global force and it has been for quite a few years now. Its characters are very well known and extremely popular. That popularity isn't strictly restricted to just the characters themselves, though. The actors that portray those main characters are equally popular -- Emilia Clarke(Daenerys Targaryen), Kit Harrington(Jon Snow), Peter Dinklage(Tyrion Lannister), Maisie Williams(Arya Stark), Sophie Turner(Sansa Stark), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau(Jaimie Lannister), Lena Headey(Cercei Lannister), among many others. They've all enjoyed immense fame over the past few years and amassed a fortune of money and fans, among the various other great tv/movie gigs that they've booked. As all Game of Thrones fans(and non-fans) are aware, we're on the last season of the show. The final season(8th) is already underway. We're four episodes down and there are just two more left. As you ca

Great Podcasts for budding Entrepreneurs

I started listening to podcasts a lot last year. I hadn't listened to any prior to that. I would occasionally turn up the radio in my car, though. But then again, that was only when I couldn't play my own playlists for some reason. Then one fine day, thanks to Spotify, I discovered podcasts and I've never looked back since. They're extremely informative, useful, entertaining, and convenient. I have a long commute to and from home to university, which is when I use the help of some of my favourite podcasts to help pass my time while learning something new. I always feel like I could use the 45-60 min drive(each way) doing a lot more productive things than driving; reading a book, an interesting article, watching a show, anything really. Thanks to some of these great podcasts down below, I've been able to gain the benefits of all the aforementioned things -- in an audio version obviously, but great, nonetheless: The Tim Ferris Show Tim Ferris is an

Steve Jobs - Quotes

Steve Jobs was one of the greatest visionaries of the world. He didn't just revolutionise the personal computers but transformed the way we look at and consume technology today. He had a keen eye for details and spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to perfect whatever area he laid his eyes upon. He never gave up, never succumbed to the pressure of doing what everyone else was doing and playing safe. He risked everything he had and then some more.  Here are a few great quotes by him that should fuel your hustle in times of need:
